I remember seeing a short-lived show long back named "Caroline in the City", where the lead character was a cartoonist. ![]() You've read Calvin and Hobbes, possibly even loved the comic strip. The person who introduced this work to me, you are a blessing. When he cares for the nature and tries to question the education system, his growing up in it, his dad's polls, his mother's annoyance, the bedtime stories - his awesomeness is evident. When he thinks of people around him being monsters, dinosaurs, earthworms, he looks like a genius who he is, by the way. He is scared of the monsters under his bed and, drum roll please, Rosalyn! No matter how mischievous and dangerously funny Calvin is, his heart is pure. Susie, ah, the nice little studious and perfect girl, has to go on tolerating Calvin all the time. ![]() Rosalyn, his babysitter gets so pissed off with him that she always demands some advance. USA Today best-selling author Olivia Gates transports listeners to exotic lands where the only things hotter than the desert sun are the romances beneath it. I also liked the more exotic desert setting and there were enough steamy scenes without feeling excessive. It wasn't excruciating drama for the sake of excruciating drama they behaved like adults and were able to resolve the matter through reasonable and believable means, without sacrificing any of the plot or the feel of the story. ![]() I especially appreciated how the couple worked out the Major Conflict between them near the end. Harres & Talia's banter was fun, and the plot was decently crafted. But let's face it-that's what we're here for. ![]() The man is, of course, an exquisite and preternaturally wealthy Adonis while the woman is usually some sort of wallflower-ish type who thoroughly blossoms into her full womanly potential while under his care/protection and, I need not add, his bedcovers. ![]() To Tempt a Sheik is your classic Harlequin Desire romance. ![]() ![]() The romance between her strong, well-matched protagonists is engaging. There is plenty to enjoy here, particularly in the subplots, and fan interest will surely remain high for the rest of this trilogy." - RT Book Reviews ![]() "Trailblazing Swedish author Ahrnstedt offers readers a satisfying game of high-stakes corporate intrigue and scandalously illicit passion. "One of the most exciting new projects is the July 2016 publication of Swedish author Simona Ahrnstedt's ALL IN." - Library Journal "A stylish tale of corruption, revenge, and hard-won love."- Kirkus Reviews "The author's ability to skillfully fuse a luxurious lifestyle, a refreshingly different Swedish setting, a plot riddled with revenge and financial intrigue, and plenty of steamy romance means All In will be the must-have leisure read everywhere this summer."- Booklist ![]() Fans of strong women and powerful men will gladly buy stock in this story."- Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW "Ahrnstedt neatly balances lusty romance and the tension of corporate scheming at the highest level. ![]() ![]() ![]() The science aspect of the game or the Costalians is used only to whet the reader's curiosity at the beginning and is never developed. It did not deliver, and I don't think it should have been nominated for a retro Hugo award. This book was a great disappointment because of the intriguing idea of the game and because I so thoroughly enjoyed Hesse's surreal Steppenwolf and was hoping for something similar. I felt similarly after reading Camus' The Stranger, but at least Camus seems to have intended a hollow feeling. The supposedly uplifting argument he gives falls flat and leaves one hollow. Instead the book is about finding meaning and purpose in life, but in this he also fails. Hesse provides elaborate details of the most mundane aspects of everyday life of the Costalians and of the curation of the game without ever introducing any struggle for why any of it matters. ![]() The title refers to a game built upon a system for describing all human potential by a future society of monk-like intellectuals (Costalians). A long rambling story devoid of interesting characters, novel ideas, or gripping conflict. ![]() ![]() ![]()

At an isolated mountain hot spring, with snow blanketing every surface, Shimamura, a wealthy dilettante meets Komako, a lowly geisha. ![]() ![]() Madesimo is certainly an ideal destination for those seeking adventure, relax and natural beauty in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Nobel Prize recipient Yasunari Kawabatas Snow Country is widely considered to be the writers masterpiece, a powerful tale of wasted love set amid the desolate beauty of western Japan. Not everyone knows that this ski area is home to the first underground funicular railway in Italy, a special and fascinating experience for those used to travel suspended on a traditional cable car. Madesimo has also a total of 12 km of cross-country skiing tracks and offers numerous sports activities in addition to skiing, such as ice skating and paragliding. What is also fascinating is the variety of the landscape, as the lower slopes are immersed in larch forests, while those higher up are on wide, open, sunny slopes above the forest line. The book can be a little difficult to follow if you don’t read carefully. ![]() The story follows Shimamura’s love affair with the hot spring geisha Komako and his developing interest with a young woman named Yoko. The ski area covers around 40 km of slopes and rises to almost 3000 m. The book Snow Country offers cold prose and interactions appropriate to its name.
